Local Emu DAQ Manual

  1. Starting the DAQ farm

    1. Starting the logger
      1. Log on to cscdaq@emudaq.
      2. Type emuLogger
        The consol log messages will appear in this window. In parallel, a log file will also be written to emudaq:/data/local/EmuDAQ.log
    2. Launching the executives for the first time
      1. Log on to cscdaq@emudaq.
      2. Type
        source emuPass
        if you haven't yet done so in this shell.
        You will be prompted for the
        pass phrase.
      3. Type
        emuFarmer -a status
        to see if any forgotten, leftover processes are running. (Troubleshooting.)
        If so, stop them by
        emuFarmer -a stop
        If all clear, start the farm by
        emuFarmer -a start
    3. Relaunching the executives
      1. Type
        emuFarmer -a restart
        (No need to get the pass phrase if emuFarmer is issued in the same shell as it has been before.)
  2. Starting the DQM farm

    1. Launching the executives for the first time
      1. Log on to cscdaq@emudaq, if you haven't yet done so.
      2. Type
        source emuPass
        if you haven't yet done so in this shell.
        You will be prompted for the pass phrase.
      3. Type
        emuFarmer -t dqm -a status
        to see if any forgotten, leftover processes are running. (Troubleshooting.)
        If so, stop them by
        emuFarmer -u cscdqm -t dqm -a stop
        If all clear, start the farm by
        emuFarmer -u cscdqm -t dqm -a start
    2. Relaunching the executives
      1. Type
        emuFarmer -u cscdqm -t dqm -a restart
        (No need to get the pass phrase if emuFarmer is issued in the same shell as it has been before.)
  3. Run control

    1. Go to the local DAQ page. It shows the state of the DAQ and the online DQM. (Troubleshooting.)
    2. Click on Ctrl in the upper right corner. It lands you on the control page.
    3. If all applications are red (in 'Halted' state), select
      run numberyour birthday
      run typeMonitor
      maximum number of events-1
      build eventsunchecked
      and click on Configure. The run number should be marked 'booked'. (Troubleshooting.) The DAQ and DQM applications should all turn yellow ('Ready'). (Troubleshooting.)
    4. Start taking data by clicking on Start. The DAQ and DQM applications should all turn green ('Enabled'). (Troubleshooting.) If we get trigger, the EmuRUI counters should start incrementing. (Troubleshooting.)
    5. Stop the run by clicking on Stop. The DAQ and DQM applications should all turn red ('Halted'). (Troubleshooting.)
