However, will need additional people for final 189 GeV final results and for 195 GeV analysis. Someone needed to measure 189 GeV bb cross section. Good project for diploma student. Volunteer needed to do direct search for excited leptons after next Summer, using 195 GeV data. DIFERMION CROSS SECTIONS ========================= Try to reduce systematic errors, particularly for e+e- and qq final states e+e-: Dominant systematics are calorimeter energy scale and ISR background. => Acceptance cuts to avoid ECAL cracks ? qq : Dominant systematic is energy response of detector. => Try to reduce using new approach correcting individually each ENFLW object type. THEORY and MC ============== Jadach's new KK MC should be implemented in KINGAL in January. Will need testing, so probably can't be used for Moriond results. For qq, will probably have to switch of KK simulation of FSR and of ISR/FSR interference, and instead let PYTHIA do the FSR, so that gluon radiation is emitted before FSR. Therefore can't use full potential of KK MC. Discussion of whether we need to change definition of exclusive cross section. (Now in terms of invariant mass of propogator for qq and outgoing lepton pair for ll). Most people not favourable to this. LEP AVERAGE RESULTS ==================== Thought will be needed on how to average our results with other LEP experiments. Non-trivial as OPAL defines cross section differently to us, and quotes different theoretical errors. Should discuss in LEPEW group ? Z' LIMITS ========== Currently don't use Bhabha results, as ZFITTER can't predict Bhabha cross section. May be possible to do this (at least for zero Z-Z' mixing angle) using similar method to contact term fit. DIRECT SEARCH FOR EXCITED LEPTONS ================================== Analysis using 189 GeV running over Christmas. Should be finished when BHWIDE and other MC samples become available. Extension of analysis looking for l* -> Z/W l/nu still to be done. Intention to produce paper on 189 GeV results and a Summer conference paper on 195 GeV data.
