Tuesday 20th April 1999 Ian Tomalin MINUTES OF THE 30TH BEW MEETING ================================= Agenda ------ Two talks providing limits on extra spatial dimensions and TeV scale quantum gravity - Ian Tomalin: Limits from e+e- -> f-fbar production. Alan Litke : Limits from e+e- -> gamma + missing energy and e+e- -> gamma gamma Ian Tomalin: Limits from e+e- -> f-fbar production --------------------------------------------------- Using the measured difermion cross sections and asymmetries, lower limits of about 1 TeV can be placed on the parameter Lambda, which represents the scale at which gravity unifies with the other SM forces. A detailed description of the analysis can be found in ALEPH 99-036. Alan Litke : Limits from e+e- -> gamma + missing energy and e+e- -> gamma gamma ------------------------------------------------------------- Together with Gary Taylor, Alan has used e+e- -> gamma + missing energy events to place upper limits upon the size "R" of the extra spatial dimensions as a function of their number. For two extra dimensions, they find that R < 5e-4 meters and for six extra dimensions, that R < 7e-14 meters. Using e+e- -> gamma gamma events, they place lower limits on the parameter Lambda of about 0.8 TeV. A detailed description of the analysis can be found in ALEPH 99-028.
