Tuesday 6th July 1999 Ian Tomalin MINUTES OF THE 34th BEW MEETING ================================= Agenda ------ 192-196 GeV dilepton results: E. Merle 192-196 GeV hadronic cross section: M.-N. Minard Single Top Production at 192-196 GeV: M. Pepe-Altarelli N.B. All results based on L = 27 pb**-1 at 192 GeV and 24 pb**-1 at 196 GeV. 192-196 GeV dilepton results: E. Merle --------------------------------------- Agreement between data and MC, all ditau and dielectron cross sections both somewhat high. Systematic errors not yet estimated. Results, e.g., Exclusive at 196 GeV: mu: sigma = 2.77+-0.33 pb (SM=2.46) ; Afb = 0.55+-0.10 (SM=0.57) tau: 3.36+-0.47 pb ( 2.55) ; Afb = 0.62+-0.17 ( 0.57) e: 17.51+-0.89 pb ( 16.55) The tau cross section is always very high in cos(theta) > 0.9 bin. Events scanned but no obvious explanation found. 192-196 GeV hadronic cross section: M.-N. Minard ------------------------------------------------- Again good agreement. e.g. Exclusive at 196 GeV: q: sigma = 18.25 +- 1.08 +- 0.32 pb (SM=17.65) Single Top Production at 192-196 GeV: M. Pepe-Altarelli -------------------------------------------------------- Analysis updated by summer student P. Giovannangeli, with able assistance from Fabio, Monica and Mario ! Cuts were reoptimized at 196 GeV, giving higher efficiency but more background. Cuts not reoptimized at 192 GeV as no MC available. The numbers of candidates seen for channels where the W from top decays leptonically or hadronically are: Leptonic Hadronic 192 GeV: Data=0 (SM=0.2) Data=3 (SM=1.3) 196 GeV: Data=0 (SM=0.1) Data=3 (SM=2.6) Total: Data=6 (SM=4.2). If the "signal" seen at 189 GeV was real, then we would expect 4.2+3.8 = 8.0 events. Therefore new results consistent both with signal hypothesis and with no signal one. => More luminosity needed.
