2. Installing SGV

The environment needed to install SGV is :

If You system fulfills these requirements, get sgv.car.gz .

Then unpack :

gunzip sgv.car.gz (or gunzip sgv.car on VMS. On VMS the gzipped file is SGV.CAR-GZ)
(NOTE that Your Browser might remove .gz at the end of the name, without actually gunzip:ing the file. If that is the case (check by looking at the beginning of the file: it should be a readable ASCII-file, not a binary file), rename the file to sgv.car.gz, and do the gunzip explicitly!!!)

Next step is to install : Place Yourself and SGV.CAR on the directory You want sgv to be on. No privileges that a ordinary user might not have are needed to install sgv ! Just execute the file :

UNIX :
ksh sgv.car (ksh can be zsh or bash, as well)
VMS :
@SGV.CAR
There will be some decisions to make while installing, namely whether to install libraries, and whether You want to produce the printable versions of the documentaion. Probably You want to do that, but pay attention to the explanation.

You now have among other things a users-guide with the name sgv_ug.tex, and a reference manual with the name sgv_refman.tex. The PostScript file are also ther if You so requested. The rest You need to know is in there.

The files extracted should be three pam-files SGVALL.CAR, SGVUSER.CAR, and SGVEVSIM.CAR and

(On UNIX, names are of course lower case. The .COM files are replaced by .ksh files with the same functionality)

Read SGV_UG.TEX, following the reading instructions in chapter 1.1 .

I have successfully installed and run SGV on

The install procedure above will set things up correctly for all these systems.
