Search for heavy resonances in the W/Z-tagged dijet mass spectrum in pp collisions at 8 TeV
Abstract: We search for massive resonances decaying into a quark and a vector boson, qW or qZ, or a pair of vector bosons, WW, WZ, or ZZ, where each vector boson decays to hadronic final states. This search is based on a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 19.8/fb of proton-proton collisions collected in the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2012 at a center-of-mass energy of 8 TeV. For sufficiently heavy resonances the decay products of each vector boson may merge into a single jet, and the event effectively has a dijet topology. The vector boson is identified by using jet substructure tagging techniques. Upper limits are set on the cross section for resonances decaying to qW, qZ, WW, WZ, or ZZ final states. Excited quark resonances decaying into qW are excluded between 1.00 TeV and 3.23 TeV, while excited quarks decaying into qZ are excluded between 1.00 TeV and 3.00 TeV. A Randall-Sundrum graviton $G_{RS}$ is excluded between 1.00 TeV and 1.59 TeV assuming decay into WW and between 1.00 TeV and 1.17 TeV assuming decay into ZZ. A heavy partner of the SM W boson W' decaying into WZ is excluded up to 1.73 TeV.
