Operating System Certification - Present List

Philippe Defert , IT/PDP

Abstract

This article is a regular reference point for the list of operating systems certified and supported by the UNIX support team.

As stated in CNL 224, here is the list of various versions of UNIX which we certify as working correctly with the CERN-recommended libraries, tools and utilities as of March, 2000:

  • Linux Red Hat 6.1 - certified and recommended
  • Solaris 2.6 - certified and recommended
  • Solaris 7 - certified but still missing some bits
  • HP-UX 10.20 ACE - certified and recommended
  • Digital UNIX 4.0.f - certified and recommended
  • AIX/6000 4.3.2 - certified and recommended

For those interested in the certification process, it is described in the Web page:

http://wsspinfo.cern.ch/file/certified.html

The latest news on the certification procedure is always published in the newsgroups associated with each UNIX flavour (for example cern.linux, etc.) and summarised in the Web page listed above and in each subsequent CNL.
