A New Satellite Help DeskNicole Cremel, Miguel Marquina, Roger Woolnough , IT/User Support AbstractNews of the opening of the new satellite helpdesk in Building 1 and the closure of the Building 40 desk. As of September 1st, the satellite Helpdesk in Building 40 will close, and a new office, in building 1, will open. Although the idea of a satellite desk in Building 40 appeared to be exploit an ideal situation, it has never really been used to full capacity; hence the new desk aims to capture a larger local audience. EP division have kindly found some office space for us next to the main Library in building 1; the area has been refurbished by ST division and funded fifty-fifty between EP and IT. Our warm thanks go to both EP and ST for their efforts. As the premises are small, the documentation and book browsing facilities will be hosted by our colleagues in the central Library, 20 meters down the corridor. Opening times will be similar to the present desk in building 40, 8.30 to 12.30, Monday to Friday. Please take advantage of this convenient new location and if well used we will certainly be looking to upgrade the opening hours to full time! A complete article on Helpdesk strategy (and what users can
expect when calling) is planned for the Weekly
Bulletin in early September. As a foretaste of this
