The UCO is dead, Long Live the Computing Helpdesk

Nicole Crémel, Roger Woolnough , IT / User Support

Abstract

The computer accounts associated with the "UCO" were deleted at the end of February 2001. From that moment, mail sent to uco@cern.ch or to uco@mail.cern.ch has been rejected.

As most users already know, the e-mail address uco@mail.cern.ch was phased out in 1998 in favour of the more explicit e-mail addresses Computing.Helpdesk@cern.ch, or simply Helpdesk@cern.ch.

The following news (and its French version) was posted on March 2, 2001 in the cern.computing and cern.nice newsgroups, following the deletion of the obsolete "uco" address:

(La version française suit)

While the UCO (User Consultancy Office) used to exist there were several e-mail addresses one could use, e.g. uco@cern.ch, user.support@cern.ch, etc. With the implementation (in 1999) of the new outsourced Computing Helpdesk within IT, one of the goals was to centralise problem submission via e-mail to Helpdesk@cern.ch, or via telephone to 78888.

We have now deleted all "uco" logins, and mails sent to uco@cern.ch or uco@mail.cern.ch will be rejected. You should send any request for Help to the Computing Helpdesk at Helpdesk@cern.ch.

Please note: <User.Support@cern.ch> e-mail address is not anymore linked to them. It can still be used to contact the User Support group for comments or suggestions on the service you receive from the Helpdesk.

If uco@cern.ch or uco@mail.cern.ch is still an entry in your personal address-book, please modify it accordingly.
