CERN Accelerating science

The latest official version of T^EX at CERN was installed in June 1999, i.e., more than two years ago.

Recently I made available an alpha release of TeXlive 6 (June 2001) on AFS, so that more recent versions of L^AT^EX and its packages can be used.

To have access to this release, just add the directory

/afs/cern.ch/sw/TeXlive/6alpha/bin/i386-linux

/afs/cern.ch/sw/TeXlive/6alpha/bin/sparc-solaris2.7

One interesting characteristic of this release is that L^AT^EX is compiled in its huge variant and comes with the hyphenation patterns of over twenty languages preloaded, so that, after choosing the relevant language (e.g., with the babel system) you can typeset text in that language.

Once this release consolidates it will be made available on Linux, Solaris, and Windows 2000 in a more standard way. The other Unix platforms being frozen they will not be upgraded and will stay with the release of June 1999.
