New CENTRAL CVS Service at CERN

Manuel Guijarro , IT/PS

A new central CVS service is in production at CERN since last September. The service is fully described at URL:

http://cern.ch/product-support/UI/Docs/cvs.html

It is already hosting over 15 projects, including:

  • Anaphe
  • NA48 Analysis Software
  • MammoGrid project
  • MACSy (The Modular Accelerator Control System)
  • MCSM (The Machine Component State Manager)
  • The Java Api for Parameter Control (AB Division)
  • The Java Data Viewer (AB Division)
  • CCDB Software
  • FIO Software
  • ...and many more.
Some of the main features of this service are:
  • Several access schemes implemented: kserver (Kerberos), SSH and pserver.
  • Data integrity: all CVS repositories are hourly mirrored and daily archived in Castor HSM.
  • Transparent fail-over and scalability via an ISS DNS alias that distributes the CVS transactions among several farm PCs.
  • Automatic CVS lock monitoring
  • Several WEB interfaces to CVS: CVSWEB and ViewCVS. Bonsai and Savannah like Web Portal will be available before summer.
  • ...and many more...
We encourage CVS Librarians currently hosting their projects in private CVS servers at CERN to try the Central CVS service.
