A Guide to UNIX Workstation Support Services at CERN

Alan Silverman CN/DCI

This new Guide, reference CN/DCI/183, describes the various services offered as part of UNIX workstation support at CERN. It concentrates on services offered by the UNIX Workstation and X Terminal Support section of the Desktop Computing Infrastructure Group in CN Division (CN/DCI/UWS) but also includes some services from other groups, in CN Division and elsewhere. The Guide is available on-line either via the World Wide Web or via AFS or by anonymous ftp to ASIS.

The URL on the web is

http://consult.cern.ch/writeup/unixservices/

and it is available either in html

for on-line browsing or as a PostScript file for printing.

If you have access to AFS, the PostScript version resides in

/afs/cern.ch/project/writeups/unixservices/main.ps

The address for anonymous ftp access to the PostScript version is

ftp://asisftp.cern.ch/writeups/unixservices.ps

Paper copies of the Guide can be obtained from the self-service shelves of the UCO in Building 513.

Any comments or suggestions for changes, improvements or additions on the Guide should be sent to the author at Alan.Silverman@cern.ch. It is hoped that future versions will expand in particular the parts referring to Digital systems, IBM RS/6000 and SGI workstations.
