CERNLIB Support for Intel-based PC Platforms

CERN Program Library Office CN/ASD

CERNLIB is currently available for MS-DOS and Linux PC operating systems.

CERNLIB for MS-DOS has been built under a joint agreement with JINR/DUBNA. We plan to continue this agreement during 1996, but do not plan to make releases for MS-DOS after the end of 1996.

During the course of 1996, we plan to invest heavily in Windows/NT, and intend that this should become a fully supported CERNLIB platform as of the final CERNLIB release in 1996. Although we will not build versions of CERNLIB for Windows/95 explicitly, we will ensure that the libraries and modules built under Windows/NT will also work correctly under Windows/95. Detailed plans for Windows/NT support are discussed in a separate article.

In addition to the current Linux support, we are investigating offering a FreeBSD port. Note that in both of these two cases, we do not plan to offer a full CERNLIB port. In particular, we do not anticipate supporting applications built on top of KUIP/Motif, such as GEANT++ or PAW++.
