Several VMS commands will be affected by the shutdown of CERNVM.
These commands are of 3 different types.
Type 1: Commands explicitly communicating with CERNVM.
The following commands will no longer work after the shutdown of CERNVM:
- -
- SUBVM - to submit a batch job to CERNVM,
- -
- RDRLIST - to look at files created by execution
of commands on CERNVM,
- -
- All CLIO commands - to access CERNVM tapes/files,
- -
- VMSTAGE, VMQUERY - mainly used by CLIO users,
- -
- any INTERLINK commands.
Type 2: Commands implicitly using CERNVM which will be replaced.
After the shutdown of CERNVM, these commands will either be replaced by
another facility or will have a reduced capability:
- -
- GRPLOT - to send plot to various plotters.
It will work only for
/PRINTER=A0COLOUR
- -
- PHONEB - To get a selected list of phone numbers. It will
be replaced by a WEB facility. Use a Web browser with URL:
http://consult.cern.ch/xwho/combined
- -
- FIND - To get information on selected KEYWORDS. It will
be replaced by a WEB facility.
- -
- XPRINT - To print files on any CERN printers. It will
only work if the /LW qualifier is selected.
This utility is now replaced by WPRINT which offers for all
printers directly connected to Appletalk and Ethernet the same
formatting capability previously offered by XPRINT without
/LW. As much as possible, compatibility with XPRINT
has been preserved.
To use WPRINT, you can either:
- -
- Replace XPRINT by WPRINT in
your printing commands
- -
- Define a symbol XPRINT == "WPRINT"
Type 3: Commands implicitly using CERNVM which will not be replaced.
After the shutdown of CERNVM, these commands will no longer be available:
- -
- SGML - uses the SGML command on CERNVM.
- -
- BOOKIE - uses the BOOKIE command on CERNVM.
- -
- XSCRIPT - uses the XSCRIPT facility on CERNVM.
Three alternatives are possible:
- 1.
-
Get a good-quality copy of the document on one printer and keep it
as an original for making future hardcopies.
- 2.
-
Translate the document, if not too complex, to HTML format.
- 3.
-
Translate the document to LaTeX.
See CNL 221, section 1.5.3 (``Migrating your Documents'') for further
details.
- -
- PRHELP - extracts part of HELP files in
sgml format.
