The UCO Command

The uco command is the equivalent of the reset button for your most important Unix Home directory dot files. This command is part of the HEPIX project and it implements CERN/CN/DCI specific site policy concerning recommended configurations. It is a user interface which proposes menus for different ``domains'' of the user configuration files:

Shell
X11
mail
security
home directoy structure

Some features are already fully implemented like the shell and X11 features. The security, mail and home features will be provided soon but are not yet fully operational because of recent changes (OS Certification, Mail Service, Security Policy). For example, on cernsp or on hpplus, if you want to reset your X11 environment, enter:

uco -X11

and you will get the following menu choice:

X11's possible actions:
  0 - Cancel.
  1 - Reset your X11 configuration files.
  2 - Fake the Xsession.
  3 - Restore the X11 configuration from
      a previous version.
  4 - Migrate the X11 configuration files
      from version 2.5.1.
5 - Clean the X11 trailing configuration files.
  6 - \FVWM{} template files.
Choice:
Choosing 1 will:
-
create you a directory $HOME/.hepix to host all your HEPIX user configuration files unless you already have one.
-
place, in this directory, a template xprofile file for customising your X session.
-
place an xclient file for starting the xclient programs you want to launch at startup time.
-
place an xkeyboard file for setting your keyboard.
-
create you a directory $HOME/.hepix/wm to organise the customisation of your window manager.
-
place, in this directory, a template fvwm_menu file for customising your fvwm user root menu.

Some features apply in general and some others are specific to your AFS Home directory.
