Using VMS Workstations as X Terminals

  Lionel Cons CN/DCI

The VMS team (with the help of the network group) tested some time ago a product called EWS that can transform a VMS workstation into an X Terminal. EWS is ageing and has now been retired from Digital's product set and is no longer supported or distributed by Digital.

Another solution would be to run directly the VXT software (the one used by Digital X Terminals) on the workstation but this configuration is also not supported by Digital.

In other words, if you have a VMS workstation, we advise you not to try to use it as an X terminal. Instead, you should consider some form of trade-in for a real X terminal or some other personal desktop workstation.
