Java WorkShop is a complete graphic development environment for Java. It includes the JDK (Java Development Kit) which is used as backend. The JDK kit contains an interpreter (JAVA), a byte code generator (JAVAC), and some class libraries. These are freely available in the network but they offer a poorer environment by themselves than Java Workshop.
We have ordered a 25-user licence for Java Workshop and delivery is expected soon (by the time you read this, it might even have arrived). For people who cannot wait, we have downloaded a temporary kit which we shall replace with the production kit when it arrives.
For Solaris systems running the SUE procedures (see http://wsspinfo.cern.ch/file/sue_sol.html) you can find the kit in
If you have a Solaris system that is not in SUE you may instead execute as root the command that follows
# ln -s /afs/cern.ch/project/sun/solaris/opt/SUNWjws /opt/SUNWjwsThen you may start the Java WorkShop environment by executing
/opt/SUNWjws/JWS/sparc-S2/bin/jwsThe JDK is distributed with the Java WorkShop. In particular you may invoke the Java compiler as
/opt/SUNWjws/JDK/bin/javacand the Java interpreter as
/opt/SUNWjws/JDK/bin/javaThe latest state of Java Workshop, especially the arrival of the production kit, will be announced in cern.sun and cern.unix newsgroups.
