CERNLIB Release 97a

  Ian McLaren CN/ASD

Pre-release versions of 97a are now available and subject to succcessful user testing will become the "pro" version in January 1997. Full details of the planning schedule, supported platforms and compilers are in the "Release Schedule" at URL:

http://wwwinfo.cern.ch/asd/cernlib/schedule.html

Most of the CERNLIB changes are minor or bug fixes, but the opportunity has been taken to use newer operating systems and compilers on some platforms. Unfortunately, this gives compatibility problems on Solaris and Digital UNIX and users are strongly recommended to upgrade these systems and their compilers to at least the levels given in the CERNLIB "Release Schedule" located above.

PAW

A detailed list of changes and the corresponding PAW version numbers are in the "Known bugs" section of the PAW Home page, at URL:

http://wwwinfo.cern.ch/asd/paw/bugs.html

Geant321

A list of the modifications to geant321 since release 96a are in the file:
/cern/new/src/geant321/doc/update97a.txt

Mathlib

After many years of dedicated support, our mathematicien K-S. Kölbig has started a well-earned retirement. Therefore, there will be a great reduction in our support for mathlib and considerable difficulty in resolving problems. When problems arise, users are recommended to check whether their application could use the NAG Mathematical Library instead. Otherwise, if at all possible, it would help to send us a complete sample program.

There are two new routines, RADMUL and FUNLUX.

Monte Carlo Libraries (mclibs)

PDFLIB 7.0x is a substantially modified version and the new manual is available at URL:

http://consult.cern.ch/writeups/pdflib

The latest versions of HERWIG59 and ISAJET722 are included.

CMZ

There is a new version of CMZ (1.49) and the changes are listed in the "CMZ News Page", at URL:

http://wwwinfo.cern.ch/cmz/cmz49_news.html

Users are reminded that this is the last official release of CMZ in CERNLIB, and that CVS together with the C preprocessor (cpp) are recommended instead.
