Juergen May, IT Division Leader
Readers will notice in this CNL that some familiar authors are now
associated with new or different groups. Behind this are some
organisational changes that have been taking place in computing
over the last months.
Occupying a central position in these changes are interactive
computing support activities.
- The new
Desktop Infrastructure Services Group (DIS) led by
Alan Silverman
focuses its activities on desktop support. More
information on the DIS group is given in this CNL, in the article
"Desktop Infrastructure Services Group".
- The responsibility for WorkGroup Server (WGS) and
Public Logon Unix Server (PLUS) services is transferred
from the former DCI group to the
Physics Data Processing group (PDP).
Furthermore the Web office has moved from the ECP Division
to IT with the obvious name of WO. More information on the
Web office is given in the next article
"The CERN Web Office: Who We are and What We do".
