VMS 7.1 Installation on VXCERN

  Tami Kramer IT/DIS

As it appears that VMS will be around for a few more years, we must envisage upgrading the operating system on VXCERN to OpenVMS 7.1. Many machines at CERN are already running VMS 7.1 and we have not seen any major problems.

The main outstanding requirement is to have a functioning CERNLIB under 7.1 before upgrading VXCERN. The most logical time period would be during the 1997/1998 accelerator winter shutdown or in the worst case, during that of 1998/1999.

Feedback is requested from those who have experience or strong feelings about the timing for the migration.
