CERN Linux CDs

  Lionel Cons IT/DIS

In order to ease the use of Linux at CERN, the IT/DIS/OSE section is producing CDs giving access to resources (files, programs, documentations, ...) publicly available on the CERN network via NFS, AFS, FTP, etc. These CDs can be used for instance at home or on portable computers. If you have access to the CERN network, it's generally better to use the "live data" on the network which is guaranteed to be up to date.

There are currently two types of CDs:

Installation CD
It contains everything needed to install the CERN recommended version of Red Hat: DOS programs, diskette images, installation files, contributed software, ... It is a partial copy of the CERN Linux Software Repository.

Application CD
It's an almost complete copy of the ASIS repository for Linux. It contains the CERN Program Library and many public domain programs such as the GNU tools, Perl, Netscape, ...

Both CDs are now available from the UCO for Red Hat 4.1 (the latest "certified" Linux version at CERN). Versions for Red Hat 5.1 (the next version for CERN) will come during the summer.

The CDs are basically free. We only charge for the media, preparation, duplication and distribution costs. See the UCO catalogue for the exact prices.
