AIX Upgrade for RSPLUS and RSBATCH

  Pietro Martucci IT/PDP

As mentioned in the last CNL, the AIX operating system used on the RSPLUS and RSBATCH services is outdated and must be upgraded. Following a number of tests in September and October we decided to try and go directly to the latest version, AIX 4.3, thus avoiding a migration to AIX 4.2 now and a second migration next year. A test service running AIX 4.3.1 was therefore made available to users at the end of October with the upgrade scheduled for the week of November 20th. Unfortunately, user tests showed up a number of problems and so the migration was postponed.

We have now installed AIX 4.3.2 on the test service and this fixes almost all of the problems that were reported. The one exception is with Netscape - the version currently installed for AIX will not work under AIX 4.3.2, but we expect a fix for this soon.

The migration to AIX 4.3.2 for RSPLUS and RSBATCH is now scheduled for the week of January 4th, 1999. All users are encouraged to login to the rs43plus service to test out the new environment.
