CERN Cricket Club Match Manager responsibilities

Each weekend's fixtures will be organised by a match manager. The match manager must:

  1. be present for the fixture. If, for any reason, the manager cannot fulfil his obligations, it is his responsibility to find a replacement
  2. contact the fixture secretary well in advance in order to:
    1. get contact details of the opposition team match manager
    2. arrange the start time of the match with the opposition team match manager
  3. find out the availability of players for the weekend match(es) making sure that in the case of a league match all players are registered with Cricket Switzerland (see list of players registered for Cricket Switzerland matches) and hence eligible to play
  4. Send the list of available players to the selection committee, who will select the team. Click to send an e-mail to the selection committee.
  5. Decide who will captain the match(es) if neither the Club Captain nor the Vice-Captain are available
  6. Ensure that the scorebook has been returned from the previous week!
  7. In the event that a decision to cancel the match has to be taken, the Match Manager should consult with the captain of the day before taking that decision!
  8. For Home Games
  9. organise the provision of teas
    • each player is asked to bring either sandwiches/curry or a cake when the team sheet is sent out, ideally by the Wednesday evening prior to the match
    • ensure that there are enough plastic cups, plates, knives, forks and spoons
    • ensure that there is tea, coffee and sugar
    • the Match Manager should bring milk
  10. inform the Social Convenor if lunch/dinner is to be organised for a visiting team, well in advance
  11. ensure that the fridge is stocked with beer (in 2019, LIDL in Ferney-Voltaire offered good value at 0,59 euro per 500 ml can) and soft drinks
  12. be the weather contact person for visiting teams on the morning of the match
  13. ensure that the grass gets cut prior to any match at nets on the Thursday evening, or immediately prior to the match.
    Note: Instructions for operating the lawnmower (Please don't let people use the lawnmower if they haven't had training).
  14. If the visiting team is not local, ensure that their players are aware that spikes are FORBIDDEN!!!
  15. After the game:
    • arrange for cups/plates etc to be washed
    • arrange for all kit to be put back in the cupboards correctly
    • empty bins
    • MAKE SURE THE HUT IS LOCKED !!!!!

  16. For Away Games
    • find out the the contact details of the opposing team's match manager from the CERN Fixture Secretary
    • fix the start time with the opposition
    • If the fixture involves travelling far and staying for the weekend, it is advisable to sort out the team at least a month (preferably more) in advance
    • ensure that the travel arrangements are made (rendezvous time and place)
    • ensure that a weather check is made before departure
    • ensure that the kit (click for list) is taken and returned afterwards

  17. At the end of every game ensure that the scorebook is correctly filled in before leaving the ground, cross-checking with the opposition's scorebook.
    • All names to be entered fully (i.e. surname and initial, no nicknames)
    • the names of people taking catches should be recorded
    • the names of people making stumpings should be recorded
    • the name of the person keeping wicket should be recorded
    • the partnerships for each wicket should be recorded
    • All players names should be entered in the batting, even if they didn't bat, so we have a record of who played in the game

  18. For league matches
  19. nominate someone to write the match report for the weekly bulletin.

  20. Ensure that details of the result and the scorebook (or copies of the relevant pages) are sent to the CERN CC Web Master as soon as possible.
