lcg-registrar.cern.ch service during

Xmas 2005 and New Year 2006

The service will be left up and running unattended.

This host (lxb2051.cern.ch) contains:

  1. The Registration database (db) for all LDAP-based VOs.
  2. The DTEAM (LDAP) VO db.
  3. A GD group internal tool for managing our hosts https://lcg-nodes-status.cern.ch:8282/
  4. The VOMS servers' configuration files https://lxb2051.cern.ch:8383/

New registration or deletion requests will not be processed during the period 22/12/2005-09/01/2006. If a registered user has to be banned during this time due to a security incidents, action should be taken at the sites. All sys. admins have instructions for such cases.

The availability of functions 1 and 2 above is needed at all times for the gridmap file generation. However, as there will be no new/removed entries, if the machine fails to respond, the script edg-mkgridmap.pl will exit leaving the same file as before which will still be the up-to-date file.

Functionality 3 is not needed during Xmas, there will be no updates required by the GD members.

Functionality 4 is needed in case the VOMS servers reboot. It is therefore necessary to have lxb2051 up and running before rebooting, if necessary, the VOMS servers. If lxb2051 suffers a hardware failure, there is redundancy in the VOMS servers' set-up that allows to count on an un-interrupted servicer over Xmas. If there is a 'global' power or hardware failure on all of these hosts, the last available version of the gridmap file will be still available at the sites so global Grid operation will continue as far as Authentication and Authorisation services is concerned.
