gLite Worker Node

1. Release Description

This release contains the gLite Worker Node module v. 2.0.0. The following sections provide additional information about the release content, the module dependencies, the know bugs and issues and a list of bugs closed since the previous release. The gLite Standard Worker Node is a suite of several gLite clients. Please refer to the individual gLite clients release notes for additional information. For information about installing and using the gLite Worker Node, please refer to the gLite Installation and User Guides.

2. Changes in this Release

This release introduces the following changes:

The FTS client has been added to the list of installed clients

Added the Service Discovery APIs and clients (used by FTS client). The file based SD requires a new service instance to be configured for each type of service to be discovered. The configuration template contains an example of discovery instance to locate FTS (org.glite.FileTransfer) services

The parameter data.services is now obsolete and is replaced by the service discovery instances
New option to avoid pre-configuring the pool accounts when the home directories are on shared file systems (inaccessible to root) or when a standard account is used to configure the WN (it should be used together with a relocation of the glite_setenv.sh file to /etc/profile.d). This functionality is activated using the modify.user.env parameter in the glite-global.cfg.xml file
The VOMS RPM has been replaced by a number of smaller RPMS containing only the required clients and APIs
The parameter, wn.ClientList, is now an array parameter and not anymore a single-valued parameter taking a comma separated list of clients

5. Known bugs and issues

This release has the following known bugs and issues. Additional information can be found on the individual release notes of the Worker Node services and clients (I/O Client, R-GMA Client and User Interface APIs and Clients, FTS clients, Service Discovery APIs). The WN pool accounts cannot be automatically discovered as done in the CE and WMS nodes. This functionality will be added in a future release
No removal procedure is provided with this release apart from the removal of the RPMS. Any account, group or other resource created during the module configuration must be manually cleaned. In addition, if several gLite modules are installed on the same node, the removal procedure may fail if there overlapping dependencies. This will be fixed in a future release. As a workaround all gLite RPMS can be removed with the following command:
