L3 events at 161 GeV

During the LEP run in 1996 the energy domain above 160 GeV was explored for the first time at an e+e- collider. This page acts as entry point to access pictures and descriptions of events recorded in 1996 with the L3 detector at CERN .

Two nice events

ee -> WW -> qq-bar + e nu_e

The first WW Candidate seen at L3: one W decays into two quarks and the other into an electron and its associated neutrino

Postscript version of above picture.

ee ->qq-bar

First event observed by L3 (on 9 July 1996 at 14:13) where an electron and a positron annihilate to form a quark antiquark pair

Look at other views: close up from side, another side view, and head on view.
