Production of the exotic state $\theX$ is measured in $p$Pb collisions at both forward and backward rapidity by the LHCb experiment. Comparisons with the charmonium state $\psitwos$ suggest that the $\theX$ state experiences different dynamics in the nuclear medium than conventional hadrons. This first measurement of the production of an exotic hadron in $p$Pb collisions provides new constraints on models of $\theX$ structure and models of hadron production and transport in nuclear collisions.
The $\jpsi \pip \pim$ invariant mass spectra measured in a) $pp$, b) $p$Pb, and c) Pb$p$ collisions, with fit projections overlaid. |

The ratio of $\theX$ to $\psitwos$ cross-sections in the $\jpsi \pip \pim$ decay channel, measured in $pp$ \cite{LHCb-PAPER-2020-023}, $p$Pb, Pb$p$, and PbPb \cite{CMS:2021znk} collisions. The error bars (boxes) represent the statistical (systematic) uncertainties on the ratio. |
