Installing MAD-9

1. First you should create the CLASSIC library:
   • Create a directory classic and make it the current directory.
   • Get the Tar file for the CLASSIC library and store it in the classic directory.
   • Unzip and untar the CLASSIC sources by

     gunzip classic-3.0.tar.gz
     tar xvf classic-3.0.tar.gz
     

   • Create the required directory structure by executing the commands

     cd src
     configure
     

     If your machine runs AFS on several computers, you may use

     cd src
     config_afs
     

     instead. This creates a separate directory for the computer it is run on.
   • Make sure the correct makefile is used:

     ln -fs make_xxx ../bin/make_all
     

     Here make_xxx is one of
     • make_hp (for HP systems)
     • make_ibm (for IBM systems)
     • make_alpha (for DEC systems)
     Modify the relevant makefile: The environment variable CLS should contain the path to the classic directory.
   • Compile and create the CLASSIC library by

     gmake
     

2. Then you may compile MAD-9 with the following steps:
   • Create a directory mad9 and make it the current directory.
   • Get the Tar file for MAD-9 and store it in the mad9 directory.
   • Unzip and untar the MAD-9 source files by

     gunzip mad-9.3.tar.gz
     tar xvf mad-9.3.tar
     

   • Create the required directory structure by executing the commands

     cd src
     configure
     

     If your machine runs AFS on several computers, you may use

     cd src
     config_afs
     

     instead. This creates a separate directory for the computer it is run on.
   • Make sure the relevant makefile is used by

     ln -fs make_xxx ../bin/make_all
