"High Performance Computing for Nuclear and Particle Physics Applications"
The project is
financed by the Romanian National Authority for Scientific Research, CNCS-UEFISCDI under
Grant Nr. PN-II-ID-PCE-2011-3-0323 (contract
IDEI-25/2011).
Description of project -
The project is based on the infrastructure existent in the Department of Particle
Physics and Information Technology (QS22 IBM blade-center w/ PowerXCell
8i and the 1162 CPU-core GRID node within WLCG). With this infrastructure 4 Computer Aided
Design problems are approached, in Particle and Nuclear Physics:
- Particle Physics:
P1 - Insertable B-Layer trigger software (ATLAS Experiment upgrade plans)
aim = code for flash tracking/vertexing for the B-layer trigger
P2 - Geometric-kinematic exclusive reconstruction methods
aim = method and code for combining kinematic with vertexing information in the reconstruction of B-decay modes
- Nuclear Physics:
N1 - Cold-Neutron Proposal for ELI (Extreme-Light Infrastructure exp.)
aim = study of cold-neutron transport feasibility and parameters at ELI
N2 - Neural Networks for Neutron Noise Spectrae in Nuclear Reactors
aim = methods for signaling anomalous neutron noise regimes at the IBR-2M reactor
The topics are of marked current interest to the
international scientific/technological community.
