At the left, between the pole pieces of the bending magnet,
a SEM grid detector. This device measures the transverse beam
profile by measuring the secondary emission currents on a grid
of wires placed in the path of the beam.
On the blue table, a wire scanner.
This device measures the horizontal beam profile by sweeping
a thin wire rapidly through the beam, while detecting the particles
scattered from it. The metal tube with the black tip is the detector,
a plastic scintillator, connected to
a photo-multiplier that is housed in the cylinder at the bottom end
of the tube.
