Emittance Measurements

On 14 March 2003, emittance measurements of the lead beam were taken on the Laser Ion Source, using the MO-PA laser system with 100J output energy, and the source with 100kV extraction potential.

The emittance was measured using a pepper pot (5mmx5mm spaced array of 0.2mm holes in a 0.15mm thick stainless steel plate); a P47 phosphor screen and an image intensified, gated CCD camera.

Below are shown the the phase space plots. The emittance device was not aligned, and hence the position and angle offset are not correct.

The 4rms emittance was measured to be 140 mm.mrad, or 0.8 mm.mrad normalised
