SEM Photos of target impact points

The following pictures of the target impact points were taken with a Secondary Electron Microscope by Jean-Michel Dalin.

We see the formation of the craters at 1, 5 and 10 shots with just the MOLPA laser scheme, where we prevented the MO beam reaching the target in between the MOLPA shots. The picture of the impact point after about 30 shots is from a typical point on the target, not made specially for this trial and does include the MO firing onto the target in between MOLPA shots.

For further comparison there are pictures of the Lumonics configuration shots onto the target, where 30 J was available. Note that the scale is different than that for the first shots. Finally the impact point on a Pb target is shown after an unknown number of shots (from 5 to 10 perhaps) with the 30 J Lumonics.

Each image is clickable to a full image, where the scale is shown on the status area at the top.
