Introduction

Only members of CALICE mailing lists can send emails to them. Non-members who email to these lists will have their emails forwarded to a list moderator for approval.

This reduces spam but does mean that only your registered email address will be able to send directly to the list. List members (only) can also view archives of all postings to the lists using the web pages listed below.

We are changing to use CERN egroups for mailing lists (from April 2016). This page will describe use for egroups, information on the original CALICE mailing list system is still available for reference, for lists that have not yet moved to egroups.

Joining or Leaving a List

Go to the egroups search page, give the name of the list you wish to join/leave, e.g. calice-general and subscribe/unsubscribe.

You need a CERN account to do this. If you do not have a regular CERN account, you need to sign up for a CERN 'External' account at https://account.cern.ch/account/Externals/, before subscribing to the egroups mailing lists. (External accounts allow you access to groups, Twiki pages, etc., but not login to computing clusters.)

Viewing archived postings on web pages

All members of a mailing list can view previously posted items via the web page for that list, see above for URLs. You need to create a login account and password on the web server hosting the archive.

Anyone can obtain one account on the JISCMAIL (previously LISTSERV) server. Your account identification is always your email address, and your password merely confirms that you are the owner of that e-mail address.

To associate a password with your e-mail address, follow the get a new JISCMAIL password link found on the login screen for the web archive. Enter your email address and the password you wish to use in the fields provided. Then press the "Register Password" button.

JISCMAIL then sends a message to the email address you entered. You must respond to the email message as directed in the message. If you do not respond, the password will not be set. This guarantees that you cannot register a password for an email address that does not exist or belongs to someone else.

Managing lists

If your JISCMAIL account (see above) is listed as an Owner or Moderator of one of these lists, after you have logged in, use the pull down menu for "List Management" to control the list. This allows you to add/remove people from the list ("Subscriber management"), to change the Owners/Moderators of the list, etc. If you choose to use the "List Configuration" ("Manual Configuration"), please check the syntax carefully!

Problems/queries

If you have problems with a particular list, e.g. cannot join/change email address, please contact the list owners using "Contacts" address on the web page for each mailing list page. This will email e.g. and be dealt with by the person(s) currently responsible for the list. For other problems (as if...), please contact .
