Monitoring of MySQL for Drupal service

Monitoring set-up

  • Monitoring of MySQL service for Drupal is done using Oracle Enterprise Manager and free management plugin delivered by Pythian group (http://www.pythian.com/news/mysql-plugin-for-oracle-grid-control/)
    • The management plugin installed on agents on OMS server - monitoring is done outside of MySQL servers
    • The plugin is installed on agent on dbsrvg3109 and is set-up to monitor MySQL DB on the drupal-v VIP
    • Name of the target in OMS is "Drupal_MySQL"
    • Basic monitoring template ("MySQL PROD") and notification rule ("MySQL") is set-up in OMS.
    • Emails are sent to people subscribed to "MySQL" notification rule only when the service is down.
  • This set-up has a limitation on MySQL version as only versions <=5.5.9 are supported in the newer version of MySQL an incompatible change in protocol standard has been introduced
    • We will try to contact Pythian to see if they have an updated version of the plugin

Reporting on performance

  • The management plugin gathers data on various metrics (~120 different metrics) and provides reporting and plotting in OMS:
    • "Quick status" - Status, processes, response time
    • "Commands and executions" - executions - current and history, joins per minute (history)
    • "Connections and threads" - connections and threads, running and idle, cache hit ratio
    • "Binary Log Cache" - binary log transaction statistics
