A page for developing an agenda for the Late August weeks at SLAC with Tibor, Travis, Mike, and Alberto (from ADS for 1 week) Tibor will hopefully spend much time working with Mike and Travis on INSPIRE development (see second section below) However, we can also usefully discuss some details of ADS' interest in Invenio. Possibly Alberto can even register at CERN Twiki and put his ideas on this page, or just send them to me.

ADS Meeting

pre-meeting things to think about

• Clear disclosure of strengths and weaknesses...where we might complement each other, not technically, but more generically
  • e.g. Affiliations? Eprint matching? Updates from arXiv (I just got a user email yelling at me because SPIRES isn't as good at this as ADS...)
  • i.e. what do we internally think we do poorly at and what do we succeed at
• possible collaborative models - we should flesh out (either prior to, or during) what colln between inspire and ads might look like in 1-2 years:
  • limited data sharing - basically current model but actually working, sending updates by email when needed, mostly hoping to flow through arXiv (heard from Simeon on the pubnotes...)
  • deep data sharing - harvesting full info on shared records via OAI-like interface, often trusting other service on records outside our general purview.
  • shared database - IF ads were running invenio, it would be conceivable to mirror, at the mysql level, the records and run Invenio instances on top that presented them differently to maintain the look/feel that the user communities prefer. Of course, this is a big 'if', but it would be interesting to explore whether this would be something we would be interested in doing. Then ads' selection process for invenio vs. other things can include this factor. It is possible that we can tell we wouldn't want to do this, even if ads adopted invenio.

At the meeting:

• Status Reports for both ADS and Inspire
• service model comparisons
  • I.e. do we basically provide the same things?
• data model comparisons
  • i.e. are there basic differences in the way we store things? (eprint + journal = 1 for SPIRES/INSPIRE = 2 for ADS)
• author ID stuff? This always gets put on these laundry lists, and nothing is ever done.
• Of course, discussion of the what ads would have to do to make invenio work
• Hand on demo of some development work, to see how (easy/hard)it is to work within the Invenio framework *
