Fixes:

- Modified the check for failing put/updates when a tape backend is requested but not provided: the SvcClass.forcedFileClass property is now taken into account. Prior to this fix the hasDiskOnlyBehavior flag was used. (#42575)

- Updates not working correctly within diskpools with internal replication enabled (i.e. maxReplicaNb > 1). Prior to this fix multiple diskcopies for the same file could be left in a STAGEOUT state. (#42614)

  • 8 October 2008 dCache v1.9.0-2 released. Please check the release notes for 1.9.0-1 and 1.9.0-2

29 September - 3 October 2008

15-19 September 2008

  • 19 September 2008 A new hotfix for the 2.1.7-17 series of CASTOR2 (2.1.7-17-2) is now officially available in the Savannah release area (http://castor.web.cern.ch/castor/DIST/CERN/savannah/CASTOR.pkg/2.1.7-17/dbupgrades/). This hotfix fixes a problem in the garbage collection process where STAGED files are not removed from disk when the GC thresholds are reached (Under certain conditions only). This problem is only observed in 2.1.7-17.
  • 17 September 2008 dCache 1.8.0-15p12 is out. Please, check dCache.org for details.

8-12 September 2008

  • 8 September 2008 The next release of the 2.1.7 series of CASTOR2 (2.1.7-17) is now available in the savannah release area (https://savannah.cern.ch/files/?group=castor). Full release notes and upgrade instructions are available at http://castor.web.cern.ch/castor/DIST/CERN/savannah/CASTOR.pkg/2.1.7-16. This release fixes a potential memory corruption when using the bulk db interface and the migration to several tapepools when migration policies are not used. We confirm that the recent Oracle problem observed at ASGC is not addressed by the bug fix as it is still to be fully understood and a priori it is not related to the mentioned fix.

1-5 September 2008

  • 1 September 2008 Version 1.8.0-15p12 of dCache will also cure the problem of the BringOnline pin lifetime. In old versions of dCache the pin lifetime on a file started as soon as the request was issued. With version 1.8.0-15p12 the pin lifetime will start only when files are brought online and are on disk. Sites affected by the pin lifetime problem (Tier-1s) are therefore encouraged to upgrade to this patch release.

ATLAS required sites to setup GROUP and USER space tokens with specific ACLs on space and associated directories. This is not possible with the current available versions of dCache. To do that, sites have to wait for version 1.8.0-16 which will provide support for ACLs on directories.

The version of DPM that supports multiple ACLs on spaces is still in the hands of the developers. The status of development can be followed here

25-29 August 2008

  • 25 August 2008 Version 1.8.0-15p12 of dCache will be soon available. Installation scripts and improvements for sites using Chimera are available. Sites who do not use Chimera should not upgrade to this version.

28 July - 01 August 2008

  • 28 July 2008 dCache announces version 1.8.0-16. It will most probably be available in one month. It contains several improvements:
