Present: Alastair Dewhurst, Alessandro Di Girolamo, Dave Dykstra, Luis Linares, Andrea Valassi
We mostly discussed Dave's squid configuration information proposal.
  • Andrea suggested adding an example of the 3 views at a site that had all 3 different; Dave plans to do that
  • Andrea and Alessandro expressed doubts that three separate views are needed: perhaps the Information System View and Worker Node View could be combined
  • AGIS currently contains essentially the Information System View for ATLAS, but Alastair pointed out that there are some sites that override it for frontier to put in private network information
  • There was general agreement that translation from the Information System View to the Monitoring View is best done on the monitoring server, although some doubts were expressed
  • However, Alessandro proposed that the Worker Node View also be stored in the Information System (using new GOCDB features), so that it will have the private node round-robin name if it is different from the public name, and the port if it is not 3128. Dave said he needed time to think about it.
  • The plan for the Web Proxy Auto Discovery is long term (at least one year before it would get significant use), and people will not be forced to change to it from what works now. It is intended especially for new applications beyond Frontier and CVMFS, although those plan to support it.
  • Andrea [and others] expressed doubts about the idea of adding a new WPAD mechanism: this may be seen as a replacement or parallel development to the current Information System, may be too complex, add another point of failure and should also be discussed in a much larger scope than our Squid monitoring task force
