Week of 220620
WLCG Operations Call details
- For remote participation we use Zoom: https://cern.zoom.us/j/99591482961
- The pass code is provided on the
wlcg-operations
list.
- You can contact the
wlcg-ops-coord-chairpeople
list (at cern.ch
) if you do not manage to subscribe.
General Information
- The purpose of the meeting is:
- to report significant operational issues (i.e. issues which can or did degrade experiment or site operations) which are ongoing or were resolved after the previous meeting;
- to announce or schedule interventions at Tier-1 sites;
- to inform about recent or upcoming changes in the experiment activities or systems having a visible impact on sites;
- to provide important news about the middleware;
- to communicate any other information considered interesting for WLCG operations.
- The meeting should run from 15:00 Geneva time until 15:20, exceptionally to 15:30.
- The SCOD rota for the next few weeks is at ScodRota
- Whenever a particular topic needs to be discussed at the operations meeting requiring information from sites or experiments, it is highly recommended to announce it by email to the
wlcg-scod
list (at cern.ch
) to allow the SCOD to make sure that the relevant parties have the time to collect the required information, or invite the right people at the meeting.
Best practices for scheduled downtimes
Monday
Attendance:
- remote: Kate (chair, DB), Julia (WLCG), Maarten (ALICE, WLCG), Xavier (KIT), Peter (ATLAS), Andrew (NL-T1), Pinja (security), Christoph (CMS), Borja (monitoring), Darren (RAL), Marian (networks), Federico (LHCb), Daniele (CNAF), David (IN2P3), Nils (computing)
Experiments round table:
- CMS reports (raw view) -
- Due to an operational mistake the SAM dataset disappeared from many sites GGUS:157766
- SAM test failures will be corrected
Sites / Services round table:
- ASGC:
- BNL: (Federal Holiday - Juneteenth today) Brief Outage HPSS (< 30 minutes) Wednesday 22-Jun-22 14:00 UTC. Sufficient disk buffers exist so ATLAS will not notice the downtime.
- CNAF: NTR
- EGI:
- FNAL:
- IN2P3: NTR
- JINR: NTR
- KISTI:
- KIT:
- GridKa is in site downtime till tomorrow (GOCDB:32364). Sadly, the announcement in GOC DB had a wrong starting date - it should have been 8 a.m. CEST, not 8 a.m. UTC.
- The compute nodes were shut down on Sunday evening already as an emergency response to inbound cooling failure. Due to the very high outside temperatures, our cooling facilities partly shut down autonomously, so we were unable to keep the farm running.
- NDGF:
- NL-T1: NTR
- NRC-KI:
- OSG:
- PIC:
- RAL: The RAL network segmentation intervention was completed successfully at ~1700 on Sunday evening. At time of reporting all services are back to production (with the exception of an IPv6 issue which is being worked on). As per the declaration of the original downtime RAL should be considered to be running at risk for Monday and Tuesday as a precaution.
- TRIUMF: NTR
- CERN computing services: NTR for Grid services. For local batch users, there is an update to the HTCondor authentication servers tomorrow. OTG:0071452 (expected to be transparent.)
- CERN storage services:
- CERN databases: NTR
- GGUS:
- Affected by the ongoing downtime of FZK-LCG2 / GridKa
- Monitoring:
- Final SiteMon reports for May 2022 sent around
- Middleware: NTR
- Networks:
- ESnet installations at CERN were not upgraded June 7-10
- When the HW has become available, new dates will be set
- Security: NTR
