WLCG Operations Call details

General Information

• The purpose of the meeting is:
  • to report significant operational issues (i.e. issues which can or did degrade experiment or site operations) which are ongoing or were resolved after the previous meeting;
  • to announce or schedule interventions at Tier-1 sites;
  • to inform about recent or upcoming changes in the experiment activities or systems having a visible impact on sites;
  • to provide important news about the middleware;
  • to communicate any other information considered interesting for WLCG operations.
• The meeting should run from 15:00 Geneva time until 15:20, exceptionally to 15:30.
• The SCOD rota for the next few weeks is at ScodRota
• Whenever a particular topic needs to be discussed at the operations meeting requiring information from sites or experiments, it is highly recommended to announce it by email to the wlcg-scod list (at cern.ch) to allow the SCOD to make sure that the relevant parties have the time to collect the required information, or invite the right people at the meeting.

  • Downtime announced for LHCb's dCache SE Wednesday May 10th, 7 a.m. - 11 a.m. UTC, where we want to upgrade most of the VMs to RHEL-8.
  • In that context, we've upgraded a couple of other VMs to RHEL-8 last week and found that that OS ships with crypto-policies that pose a problem for Java applications that use cryptographic keys with a length shorter than 2048 bits. Which means, grid proxies with 1024 bit keys are rejected for transfers with dCache SEs running on RHEL-8. A work around is known and proven to work (soften the crypto policies to accept 1024 bit keys again). Though, naturally, the better solution would be to employ stronger grid proxies. Since we don't know the current situation for LHCb, we will deploy the very same workaround for them.
    • Maarten: PIC had the same issue a few weeks ago and has implemented the workaround.
    • Xavier: We will do the same
    • Maarten: Will take care of talking with LHCb to make sure all the old certificates will be left to expire and the new ones will be issued with the stronger encryption.
