What is this?

Terra Incognita lectures are informal talks and discussion about services and plans of our peers that we know nothing about. They are meant to help us understand better the service internals and strategy choices in our group and provide mutual support. The audience is meant to be the group members but exceptionally, lectures could be opened to other colleagues, interested in a particular subject.

Lectures are held monthly, every last Monday of the month at 3pm on Zoom or in the IT Social Room (building 28-1). Since March 2020, due to the COVID-19 lockdown, the lectures take place only on Zoom. The duration is 30'-45' minutes, with possibility, for those interested, to stay in the room and further discuss technical details.

Announcements will be done via the IT-CDA mattermost channel the Thursday before and the morning of the day. Text should be posted with "@all " to create notifications. If you have any suggestions for a Terra Incognita lecture, please contact Maria Dimou.

Information for speakers

Terra Incognita lectures are meant to discover new areas interesting or necessary to IT CDA members. If you are giving a lecture about a particular service or technology, do not give many technical details but instead focus on:

• Introduction or overview of the topic since there may be people who are new to it
• How the topic is relevant to IT-CDA related activities?
• How does it fit to the group strategy?
• What is the support structure and needs?
• What are the current challenges? What is the future work?
• What other similar technologies exist in the market and whether they have been evaluated or considered at some point.

The Terra Incognita lectures are inspired by a regular event of the past see Indico category, on an idea of Markus Schulz at the time of Grid deployment. Maria Dimou was organising them during the 2013-2015 period.
