SupportProblem How do I get the Backspace key on my Xterminal/Exceed/putty etc to work ?
SupportAnswer In a terminal emulator, the Backspace key should delete the last character typed. If it does not, the stty command may be used to set up the desired behaviour. If running GNOME Terminal, Konsole or xterm at the console of your SLC3 workstation, the appropriate command is:
stty sane
If running xterm in SLC3 via Exceed on a Windows PC, the command is:
stty erase \^H
If running a PuTTY session in SLC3 from a Windows PC, the command would be:
stty sane
Fixing this for all combinations of terminal emulators, window environments, libraries and drivers keyboards is de facto impossible, the nonstandard backspace/delete behaviour has been bugging UNIXes for years.
