Desktop/Notebook test

Comments:

  1. Std install
  2. yum install iwl6000-firmware
  3. yum install xorg-x11-drv-nvidia
  4. nvidia-config-display enable
  5. use nvidia-settings to configure external monitor
  6. chkconfig --level 345 NetworkManager on
  7. in /etc/modprobe.conf:
          alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
          options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=0
          alias snd-card-1 none

  8. Execute
       setpci -s 46:06.1 0xCA=0x57
       setpci -s 46:06.2 0xCB=0x02
       setpci -s 46:06.2 0xCA=0x00
       modprobe sdhci

  9. to workaround suspend/resume problem for the screen:
       touch /etc/pm/config.d/elitebook && chmod +x /etc/pm/config.d/elitebook

    Then add the lines
    DISPLAY_QUIRK_VBE_POST=false
    DISPLAY_QUIRK_VBEMODE_RESTORE=false
    DISPLAY_QUIRK_VBESTATE_RESTORE=false
    DISPLAY_QUIRK_DPMS_ON=false
    HIBERNATE_RESUME_POST_VIDEO=no

    to /etc/pm/config.d/elitebook
  10. to workaround suspend/resume problem for the sound, install attached script https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/pub/LinuxSupport/HPEliteBook8540p/09alsa as /etc/pm/sleep.d/09alsa
  11. reboot && enjoy ?

What still does not work (2.6.18-194.3.1.el5):

  • system beep goes via some strange channel (can be muted via alsamixer)
  • wifi only works via NetworkManager (ifup wlan0 fails ..)
  • wi-fi led does not change state (always red, but enables/disables rfkill switch)
  • Mute led does not change state (always red, but enables/disables rfkill switch)
  • built-in microphone
  • webcam (module is loaded, ekiga crashes)
  • sound not back after suspend

  • SD card reader works unreliably, may cause system hang (or not work at all ...)
  • - wakeup : wifi card unreliable - after few wakeups driver reports "Device reached critical temperature - ucode going too sleep" and doesn;t reinitialize the card
  • wakeup takes up to 3(!!!) minutes ...
