What has happened to software in /usr/local/... ?
|
SupportAnswer |
In CERN Linux 7.3.x, software from ASIS, CASTOR, CERNLIB, ... used to be installed in subdirectories of /usr/local (programs in /usr/local/bin , libraries in /usr/local/lib , ...). Scientific Linux puts such software in subdirectories of /usr (/usr/bin , /usr/lib , ...), to conform to the Linux filesystem hierarchy standard. There are however some "compat" packages containing symbolic links from /usr/local/... to /usr/... ; this is a stop-gap measure to provide backward compatibility.
