(random things that need sorting)

  • use /etc/issue.net to advertise that somebody logs into an obsolete machine pretty intrusive:
    • may conflict with existing local changes to the file,
    • may conflict with later planned migration, for tech reasons
  • send mail to root. Problem: not set up correctly, will go to nowhere, will flood admin for some clusters
  • use CDB info for centraly-managed machines?
  • send mail to registered LanDB owner - see HowToRunASLC3MigrationCampaign. Messy log-file parsing..
  • what about machines that (still) cannot migrate because service deps are not met? - affects gLite Middleware
  • inform DTF regularly on progress and measures
  • inform Linux users: nntp:cern.linux, mailto:linux-experts, mailto:linux-certification
  • link to upstream SL deadline, https://www.scientificlinux.org/distributions/
  • should we point users to CentOS repos (available until ~2010)?
  • need reliable statistics to track phaseout.

Timeline

  • 2007-04-31: 6 months to go
  • 2007-07-31: 3 months to go
  • 2007-10-31: no more support:
    • remove install repositories
    • no more support calls answered
    • no more security updates provided
    • could mess with /etc/issue.net
