LS2 LHC BLM activities

Main activity for the LHC is the removal of BLM detectors and cable-trays for allowing the cryo-module diode consolidation campaign (DISMAC). During LS2, approx. 40% of the LHC BLM system deployed in the tunnel will be temporary removed and following the completion of DISMAC will be re-installed and re-tested.

Step 2: Re-installation and first verification check [ON-GOING]

Evolution of the re-installation task:

The following pictures show the evolution and current status of the re-installation task

Note: The grey bands indicate the main locations, i.e. at which sector, the activity took place. During several periods the activity had to shift between sectors to avoid access constrains and this is not indicated to simplify visualisation. For exact dates one should consult the tracking file linked below.

Additional removal of detectors:

The following picture shows the current evolution of additional detector removals to support various activities

Note: Removal of detectors that have been already re-installed and had to be removed second time to support DISMAC non-conformities found are not accounted here.

Evolution of HV tests:

The following picture shows the evolution of the HV tests. This implies to check the HV connections to all detectors and the correct functioning of the DAC CFC cards. Most common fauls are missing or damaged connector, CFC card disconnected or with errors.

Evolution of the storage boxes recovery task:

The following picture shows the evolution of the storage boxes recovery task distributed at the start of the activity to provide a temporary safe storage location for all the material, i.e. detectors, supports, cables and electronics, necessary to be removed for the interconnect opening or magnet exchanges.

Evolution of the BLM labels installation task:

The following picture shows the evolution of the installation of the BLM labels. These labels (one per monitor and one per location) identifies the monitor, they include a QR code to be read with the TIM train for the automatic and autonomous radiation test.

Detector HV power supplies state:

Step 1: Removal of detectors and cable-trays [COMPLETED]

The removal of all BLM detectors and cable trays concerning DISMAC is complete:
