B513 Planning Meeting, 21st March 2003

Present:           Tony Cass, Anne Funken, Jukka Lindroos, Jose Miranda-Vizuete

1.             Previous Minutes

  1. Approved.
  2. 3.2: The next site committee is on May 14th. The project must be presented to the site committee before the order is placed, but the tender can be sent out before May 14th.

2.             Substation Planning

  1. A new cable layout has been developed which routes cables vertically down from the transformers but then down the walls to go under false floor, so equipment location is not restricted by the cable routing. Concerns about water infiltration are addressed by having a wall (rising up sufficiently to be covered by the transformer housing) around the cable entry point under the transformers—which is anyway small.
  2. Although the size and location of this protecting wall can be defined for the 2MVA transformers, we still do not have the precision dimensions of the 3MVA transformers. However, an estimated size and location for the wall under the 3MVA transformers would be enough at present.
  3. Anne would like to allow for the possibility to support a 7th transformer just in case we do not use filters to reduce harmonic distortion. Jose does not consider that this would be a major reconfiguration if asked after the tender—now that the interior walls are load bearing, the roof dalle is considered independent above each room and so an extra opening for the additional cables could be added easily.

1.        The schedule to the start of construction at the beginning of September was sketched out as follows:

a.       CERN documents given to design bureau by March 28th;

b.       final documents returned by April 4th;

c.       ST “comité de lecture” (1.5 weeks notice) and specification meeting (1 week notice) until week ending May 2nd;

d.       tender issued during the week beginning May 5th;

e.       adjudication by end-June;

    1. contract negotiations during July.
  1.  Work to modify the HVAC piping in the corridor will start soon. Temporary arrangements for the HVAC ducting will be required during bunker construction.
  2. Anne is still investigating options for filters to reduce harmonics. These will go on in parallel with planning for the upgrade of the machine room distribution.

3.             AOB
