B513 Planning Meeting, 7th November 2003

Present:           Tony Cass, Anne Funken, Jukka Lindroos, Jose Miranda-Vizuete, Tim Whibley

1.             Previous Minutes

  1. 4.2) There is no existing 18kV supply to B226.
  2. 5.1) Selection of the contractor for the duct installation will need to take into account the fact that the work can’t be done all in one go. Jukka commented that, although work along the Salève side could start now, it is being delayed by a lack of draughtsmen in ST/CV.

2.             Substation Status

  1. The civil engineering work continues to make good progress with the focus moving now to work in the S-206 corridor. Planning for this work has taken into account the need for access to the UPS room to install new batteries in January 2004.
  2. A plan to ensure redundant supply arrangements for the hvac equipment has been prepared. With the proposed arrangements at least 6 stations will be kept running in the event of a single failure. This will be adequate to maintain an ambient temperature of below 35°C in both the vault and the machine room—without these measures there was a risk the temperature in the machine room could rise to 150°C in 10minutes! Anne commented that there is still some risk for UPS batteries as temperatures in the UPS area can rise to 30°C, outside the required 20±5°C range. However, there are no immediate risks from such a temperature excursion, rather a possible degradation in battery life. The cost of maintaining the battery temperature in the required range is out of proportion with the risk.
  3. The modifications to the hvac electrical supply imply some additional connections in the substation safe room, but no more than was allowed for in the initial plans.

3.             Machine Room Upgrade Status

  1. The Salève and barn side walls have been painted and the plasterboard barrier completed. The painting of the Jura side walls will start early next week; Tim will arrange the replacement of the necessary rows of false floor tiles.
  2. Installation of the PDUs is now scheduled for 17th November.
  3. Jose will contact Fatima Najeh to discuss purchase of the false floor grilles. As these have a free surface area fraction of 40%, 375m2 of grilles will be needed to provide the required 150m2 of free space for airflow.
  4. Tim will contact 77777 to arrange cleaning of the false floor void.
  5. Jose has asked for an offer to cover the expansion joints.

4.             B513 HVAC Planning

  1.  Jukka presented a schedule of work for the hvac upgrade. The schedule does not include a possible need to replace the pipework; the state of the existing pipework still needs to be established.

5.             AOB

  1. Next meeting: 2pm, Friday 21st November.
