B513 Planning Meeting, 21st November 2003

Present:           Tony Cass, Anne Funken, Jukka Lindroos, Jose Miranda-Vizuete

1.             Previous Minutes

  1. 3.4) ONET are preparing an estimate for the cleaning of the false floor. Tim has stressed that this work should be carried out before Christmas.

2.             Substation Status

  1. The order for the 400V switchboards will be created during the first week of December. The order for the transformers is expected early next week; this has been delayed as an avenant to the contract was required.
  2. Belloni cannot create the caniveaux under the transformers with the transformers in place as planned. Given that complete removal of the transformers is a lengthy process, creation of at least one, and possibly both, of these caniveaux will have to be done after the new substation is commissioned. This has two consequences.
    1. Anne needs to replan the commissioning of the substation, and particularly the cable routing, to avoid requiring these caniveaux—and then arrange for the rerouting of cables once they have been created.
    2. We need to discuss with Belloni whether or not any part of the caniveaux can be constructed already or if all should be left until later. Both options have problems, but it would seem best to construct at least part of the caniveaux now to ensure that there is no requirement for access to the substation once it is in operation. Jose will discuss this with Belloni and also with SPL as the contract and payment implications need to be understood.
  3. The waste water pipe in the barn wall has been traced to the sink in the barn. This will be disconnected.

3.             Machine Room Upgrade Status

  1. Following discussions during a visit from Steel Systems, the free surface area required has been reduced by accepting an increase in the air velocity (from 1m/s to 2m/s).  The layout plan should be updated to reflect the reduced number of grills and also to indicate the position of the new ducts for the underfloor air flow.
  2. Three PDUs have arrived and installation has started. Delivery of the remaining PDUs is expected during week 48.  Placement of the PDUs in the room allows for installation of filters should this be necessary later.  Anne considered that it should be possible to power the normabarres as from the beginning of January.
  3. Although the power available on the right hand side will be restricted initially by the limited number of connections at the UPS level Anne does not expect there to be any problem in supporting all of the equipment to be transferred from the left hand side. We will, however, have to take care in equipment placement as each PDU can be run at most at 50% of the nominal capacity.
  4. Jose reported that the plaster block wall under the false floor had been completed as foreseen, the expansion joints in the false floor had been covered and the holes in the Saleve side wall filled.  Although the plaster block barrier could be continued behind the networking area there is probably little interest in doing this work at present. The plaster blocks should be stored inside until the installation work restarts.
  5. Jukka will arrange for removal of the radiators along the archive store wall and also the sink nearby.

4.             B513 HVAC Planning

  1. There has been no change in the overall status of the HVAC planning. However, the pipework will be cleaned soon and this will allow x-raying of the pipes to check their state.

5.             AOB
