B513 Planning Meeting, 16th January 2004

Present:           Tony Cass, Anne Funken, Jukka Lindroos, Jose Miranda Vizuete, Tim Whibley

1.             Previous Minutes

  1. 3.1) The reception meeting for the new machine room PDUs has been delayed to allow a change of supervision software, but this has no impact on the overall schedule for the right hand side.
  2. 3.2) The delivery date for the floor tiles has been confirmed for the end of February.
  3. 3.4) An order has still to be placed for the removal of the radiator along the archive store wall.

2.             Substation Status

  1. As the waterproofing is not yet complete there was some water infiltration during the recent heavy rain. Some touch-up work will be necessary on the paintwork. The false floor infrastructure has arrived and post locations marked; installation work should start from January 19th. There is still a good chance that the bunker construction will be complete by the end of February although good weather is needed to complete the covering and ramp.
  2. It was agreed that, although the S-206 corridor walls will be made good, Belloni will not be asked to paint them. Any repainting necessary will be organised only after the other construction work that will take place in the existing substation area.
  3. It was agreed to ask Belloni to provide grills for the vents in the cooling tower to ensure that there is no chance of water infiltration before the cooling equipment is installed.
  4. Preparation of electrical equipment is on schedule—the 18kV switchgear will start to arrive in March.
  5. The price enquiry for the air conditioning equipment and installation will be sent out as soon as a draughtsman is available to produce the plans.
  6. Belloni have estimated the additional costs to finish the two remaining caniveaux in a second stage at 14KCHF. Jose suggested, however, that there could be additional costs once the work restarted and that it would be more appropriate to complete these caniveaux when the current substation areas are remodelled.

3.             Machine Room Upgrade Status

  1. The false floor grills are scheduled to arrive by February 23rd with installation from February 26th. A plan for the location of the grills is needed by mid-February so that we can place cut or damaged floor tiles in these locations.
  2. Jukka presented three options for providing the necessary total duct cross-section (28m2) for the underfloor airflow.
    1. Installation of ducts along the barn wall. These, however, would use space that has been reserved for the installation of filters for the PDUs. It was suggested that these could be routed along the barn side of the wall (although this could interfere with the proposed Barn conversion).
    2. Installation of ducts along the archive store wall rather (or as well as) along the operations corridor wall. Again, ducts along the archive store wall would clash with the space reserved for possible filter installation. It would be difficult to route these ducts on the other side of the wall as there is no false floor in the archive store.
    3. Since the problem is to provide air flow along the direction of the equipment rows, Jukka suggested that a duct could descend in the middle of the room. There was some concern that this would limit access paths.
  3. Tony stressed the need for a costed plan which addresses the cooling requirements. The work discussed above is highly likely to exceed the initial cost estimations and a clear justification for the additional expenditure will be needed.
  4. There was some discussion of the potential impact of a Barn conversion on the air conditioning for the machine room. If there is such a conversion then the ducts in the current false ceiling can be dismantled—the new office area would have a completely independent air circulation. It is understood that the duct down to the UPS area must stay (which will be used to pump air under the machine room false floor), but the need to accommodate additional ducting has not been taken into account in the price enquiry. Again, the need for, and location of, any such ducts must be understood rapidly to allow their inclusion as constraints for the proposed remodelling.
  5. Jukka and Jose have had initial discussions with Steel Systems concerning the modifications to the false floor structure that would be needed to accommodate the new ducts along the Salève wall. No exact price could be given, however, as this depends on the details of the arrangements needed for each duct.

4.             B513 HVAC Planning

  1. A price enquiry for modifications to the HVAC plant to accommodate a new chiller is in preparation.
  2. There will be tests next week (from January 19th) to see if enough cooling can be provided without chilled water. If so, this will allow emptying of the pipes to check their state.

5.             AOB

  1. The new UPS batteries have been delivered to Prevessin. Everything is in place for the UPS maintenance and capacity increase to take place as planned.
  2. Next Meeting: 10:00, Tuesday 3rd February.
