The GDB
in June provided an update on the progress of the SL4
Migration and on the Middleware services
including FTS, BDII, Job Priorities
and gLite-CE.
It was
also reported on the progress in CASTOR and the
work of the recently created CASTOR taskforce. The
Monitoring working groups (Grid Services,
Dashboards and System Management)
summarized the status and progress of their work.
The
Pre-GDB meeting (Agenda)
was dedicated to the "Reports
on the SRM 2.2 Implementations and Releases" and
to the "Status of PPS Test Systems and Plans".

Agenda,
Minutes
The GDB
in May provided an update on the progress of the SL4
Migration and on the completion of several Security
Policy Documents. A presentation by M.Jouvin summarized
the status and plans of the HEPiX working group
investigating New File Systems. The rest of the meeting
was dedicated to answer to the Top 5 Issues of the LHC
Experiments, covering the status and progress of SRM
2.2, CASTOR, dCache, FTS, Data Management, WMS, CE and
several other middleware components.
4 June 2007 -
Agenda,
Minutes
The meeting went through the usual overview of the reports submitted
by the EGEE, WLCG and OSG sites.
SAM Issues Resolved - The recent problems with the SAM
availability tests were identified and solved. It was a combination
of database problems, web services and firewall
configurations.
Availability Reports for May 2007 - The availability reports
from Tier-0 and Tier-1 sites, explaining any unavailability period
of 2 or more hours, will be collected for the month of May 2007 and
presented to the LCG Management Board.
21 May 2007 -
Agenda,
Minutes
Retirement of classicSE - The classicSE development is
frozen. This raised a few issues: (1) What could replace classicSE?
Most features are in DPM, therefore DPM could be a suitable upgrade.
2) What features in classicSE are no more available? The real POSIX
mounting of the file system via NFS is not available now. DPM and
dCache are looking at supporting NFSv4. (3) Will classicSE still be
included in the upcoming gLite release? Yes, classicSE will remain
in the gLite 3.1 release. Once there is NFSv4 support in other SE
implementations the release of classicSE will be re-evaluated.
SL4 Build Status - All of SL4 32 bits builds except the APEL
publisher because of some problem with javac which is under
investigation. There is also a problem with lcg-info-dynamic-dpm.
Porting to 64 bits is lower priority than 32 bits and while it is
being built routinely by ETICS there are compilation problems with
the build. The latest build status is always available on the Web.
Link
SL4 Installation - Installations are now happening of some
SL4 32 bits node types, in particular some installs correctly (e.g.
the UI), some fails with dependency problems (CE). and some have not
been tried (e.g. WMS). The UI is the priority node type in this
configuration.

Agenda,

Improvements to
the Release Process - From next week six sites will
perform pre-deployment testing on their Pre-Production Services
(PPS). M.David, from LIP, is the coordinator of this activity.
Site Reports and
Availability Reports - The availability reports do not replace
the site reports. Every site is still required to send the weekly
site report, covering software updates, interventions, issues, main
operation activities, etc. The availability reports are
required to Tier-0 and Tier-1 sites and should explain any
unavailability period of 2 or more hours.
Upcoming WLCG
Service Interventions - The change of LCG VOMS certificate,
expiring on the 29th May; will be done on May 24th. Three
announcements will be sent before performing such a change.

CPU
Benchmarking - As follow-up to his previous
presentation (Bulletin no.17). M.Alef proposed the
adoption of a temporary solution for CPU benchmarking,
common to all LCG sites. HEPiX has already launched a
group (Link)
to study the SPECInt2006 benchmarks but probably LCG
will need a short-term solution for the CPU procurements
in 2007.
Accounting Non-Grid Submitted Jobs - Since March
2007 all Tier-1 sites accounting data is stored in the
APEL accounting repository. J.Gordon presented a
proposal on how to also account for job submitted
directly at the sites without using standard grid
job-submission services.
SRM
2.2 Progress - F.Donno presented the monthly report
on the status of the Mass Storage Systems (MSS) and
their progress in implementing a common SRM 2.2
interface.

Data Integrity -
B.Panzer had distributed a document
about data integrity, on the causes of data errors
(transfers, memory, disks, etc) and some possible
solutions or, at least, available strategies for the
detection of those data corruption problems.
High Level Milestones Update -
Roundtable discussion in order to check, at every site,
the status of the High Level Milestones at the end of
May 2007. These milestones apply to all Tier-0 and
Tier-1 sites and include 24x7 support, installation of
accounting, job priorities and performance targets to
reach.

GDB Summary
- J.Gordon presented a summary of the discussions and presentations
at the GDB meeting of the 2 May 2007.
Follow-up to Top
5 Issues from the Experiments - L.Robertson proposed to the LCG
MB the follow-up actions to answer to the Top 5 Issues presented by
the LHC Experiments in April.
Job Reliability
Reports - L.Robertson presented a proposal for reporting, for
each LHC experiment, the job success rates at each Tier-0 and
Tier-1 site.
Site Reliability
Reports - A.Aimar provided a summary of the site reliability
reports for April 2007. also comparing the availability of the first
four months of 2007.

March 2007
Accounting Report -J.Gordon presented a summary of the site
resources as extracted from the APEL accounting database for March
2007. Until now about half of the Tier-1 sites publish their
information correctly; but all errors seem understood.
Status of the
High Level Milestones - Roundtable reviewing the status of the
High Level Milestones due by April 2007 at Tier-0 and Tier-1 LCG
sites.
